Setup Guide

Get ThreadLedger working in 3 minutes
ThreadLedger uses your own AI API key. Your emails are analyzed directly in your browser — they never pass through our servers.

1 Install the Extension

Install Thread Ledger from the Chrome Web Store:

Add to Chrome — it's free

Works on Gmail and Outlook. No account required to install.

2 Get a Free AI API Key

ThreadLedger works with several AI providers. We recommend Groq — it's free and fast.

Make sure you copy the full key — it's usually 50+ characters long.

3 Enter Your Key in the Extension

Open Gmail (or Outlook), click the ThreadLedger button in the sidebar, then:

  1. Click the ⚙ Settings button in the panel header
  2. Scroll to AI Provider
  3. Select your provider (e.g. Groq)
  4. Paste your API key
  5. Select a model (default is fine)
  6. Click Save Settings

If you see "No AI provider configured" in the panel, click Set up AI Provider — it will let you enter your key inline without opening Settings.

4 Analyze Your First Thread

Open any email thread in Gmail or Outlook. The ThreadLedger button appears in the sidebar. Click it to open the panel, then click Analyze. The analysis typically takes 5–15 seconds.

Free plan: 5 analyses per day, full read-only results.
Pro plan: unlimited analyses, commitment tracking, local history, People tab, exports, and custom templates.

Troubleshooting

Analysis fails with API error: double-check your key is correct and has credits/quota remaining.

"Extension context lost": refresh the Gmail/Outlook page after reloading the extension.

Panel doesn't open: make sure you have an email thread open (not just the inbox list view).

License key not working on new device: go to Reactivate to verify your email and unlock the key.
